Relined and GasLINE cooperate in marketing their fibre infrastructures

Vianen 21st of September 2022: Relined Fiber Network and GasLINE are joining forces to market their dark fibre network capacities on both sides of the border as well as direct fibre connections from Germany into the Netherlands. Both networks are closely meshed in their respective countries. The collaboration will focus on exploiting sales opportunities that arise when customers require dark fibre routes in both countries.

Relined was founded in 2003 with a clear mission which now extends far beyond the Dutch borders. In 2021, the company already entered into an extensive cooperation with Energinet, the Danish gas and electricity supplier. Now, less than a year later, it has found a new cooperation partner in GasLINE, a strong fibre optic network provider. Both companies are a good match in terms of mission and strategy, leasing dark fibre networks while taking a neutral position in the carrier wholesale business. By cooperating with GasLINE, an established infrastructure company in Germany, Relined will strengthen its position in the German market.

GasLINE was founded in 1996 by several gas transmission and regional distribution companies. Since then, it has developed into one of Germany’s leading providers of fibre optic infrastructure. The company has a nationwide fibre optic cable network spanning over 32,000 km, which will be expanded by another 4,000 km by 2024. Much of GasLINE’s own fibre optic cable is installed alongside gas pipelines, providing increased security against physical hazards.

Relined’s primary objective is to provide network capacity to the telecommunications market using leased fibre networks owned by public and private organisations as well as other carriers. By effectively utilising and marketing these transmission capacities, Relined can make a sustainable contribution to the rapid digital growth of the economies in the Netherlands, Denmark and Germany.

“We are pleased to be working with GasLINE, a new cooperation partner in our neighbouring country. We are sure that by cooperating more extensively between different networks and countries, and by taking advantage of the resulting opportunities, we can make a responsible contribution to further digitalisation,” said Kristel Landa, CEO of Relined Fiber Network.

Added value of the cooperation

Under the cooperation with GasLINE, Relined gains access to GasLINE’s network in Germany. Being able to use both network infrastructures means the companies can offer network capacities to international carriers – for example between Amsterdam and Frankfurt/Main or between Amsterdam and Hamburg, or even as far as the Polish or Danish border. “Having GasLINE in Relined’s partner portfolio provides many opportunities to jointly meet a part of our customers’ international network need, and with this the two parties can strengthen their market positions”, adds Kristel Landa in describing the synergy.

“For GasLINE, this cooperation is interesting as it allows us to offer routes to Amsterdam on the international telecoms market. Amsterdam is an international telecoms hub and the internet node AMS-IX is also an internationally relevant internet exchange. In addition to Amsterdam, GasLINE can offer its customers some 14,000 kilometres of network in the Netherlands and 5,500 km in Denmark thus providing desired cross-border connections,” said Wolfram Rinner, Managing Director of GasLINE GmbH & Co. KG, highlighting the advantage of the cooperation from a sales perspective.
