Relined acquires the Glazen-Maas urban fibre-optic network and launches a new metro network in Rotterdam
The acquisition ensures continuity for existing customers and connects the Rotterdam network to Relined’s national and international infrastructure.
Vianen, 27 october 2026 – Through the acquisition of Glazen-Maas, a Rotterdam municipal subsidiary, Relined Fiber Network is taking full ownership of Glazen-Maas’s existing dark fibre network. With this acquisition, the dense urban fibre-optic network comes under Relined’s control. The network, consisting of approximately 80 kilometers of fibre-optic infrastructure, already connects dozens of organizations. It will be integrated into Relined’s national network and will form the basis for the launch of a new Relined metro network.
Relined and the City of Rotterdam have been collaborating for some time on the operation and availability of the fibre-optic network. With the transfer of full ownership, the network will become a permanent part of Relined’s national infrastructure. For existing customers, nothing will change regarding their connections or services. Relined will immediately invest in the further optimization and development of the network.
The acquisition involves the shares of Glazen-Maas, whose primary asset is the network infrastructure. Glazen-Maas has no employees.
Greater Control Over Connectivity
Connection to Relined’s national network offers organizations more opportunities to tailor their connections and data routes to their specific needs. In addition to dark fibre, Relined will also be able to offer WDM, Ethernet, and cloud connectivity services via the network following the integration.
Continuity for Existing Customers and New Opportunities for Organizations
Relined will continue to provide uninterrupted service to the dozens of organizations already connected to the network. By entrusting the ownership, management, and further development of the network to a single specialized national network operator, a solid foundation is created for continuity and future investments.
At the same time, the integration offers new opportunities for organizations in Rotterdam that wish to diversify their connectivity across multiple network providers. Relined serves as a complementary alternative, giving organizations greater freedom of choice and flexibility in designing their connectivity strategy.
Pieter Heestermans, CFO at Relined Fiber Network:
“With this acquisition, we are adding a dense urban fibre-optic network to our infrastructure and connecting Rotterdam directly to our national and international network. For existing customers, this means continuity, combined with access to a broader network and additional connectivity services. At the same time, we are creating the capacity to connect new organizations and grow alongside their future connectivity needs.
Rotterdam is a logical next step for us. The region has a high concentration of internationally operating companies and is a major economic hub in Northwestern Europe. With this expansion, we are strengthening our position as a connectivity partner in the region and our connection to our national and international network.”
A New Metro Network for Greater Flexibility
With this integration, Relined is launching a metro network in Rotterdam based on the same model as its existing metro networks in Amsterdam and Frankfurt. Within the metro network, Relined offers connections based on a standardized portfolio and a transparent pricing structure. For connections within the existing coverage area, Relined aims for a turnaround time of one to three weeks, depending on technical feasibility and any necessary on-site work.
The network has sufficient capacity to connect new organizations in addition to existing customers. This enables companies and institutions to connect new locations more quickly, expand capacity, and adapt their network architecture as their needs change.
