Asteroid, the global interconnection platform innovator, and Relined Fiber Network, the independent, leading supplier of Dark Fiber connections in Northwest Europe, announced today that they are partnering to connect networks in Amsterdam.
The Asteroid Internet Exchange Point (IXP) and Relined partnership offers content providers, ISPs, enterprises and other networks in Amsterdam improved interconnection and resilience. With the impressive fibre network of Relined, networks can now reach the Asteroid IXP quicker, more efficiently and more cost-effectively than ever.
“Asteroid is a real innovator in the IXP field”, says Guido Sip, Director Sales & Marketing at Relined. Asteroid developed a high quality and efficient IXP model, which we believe could be really interesting to many Internet players. We are excited to partner with them, in helping growing their business in Amsterdam.
Amsterdam is one of the most network-dense cities in the world, and home to one of the fastest Internet connections in the world.
When networks interconnect at Internet exchange points (IXPs), such as Asteroid, they localise their traffic exchange. That way, they improve performance, reduce latency and reduce the cost of that traffic exchange. Instead of sending traffic through several other parties, they retain the control of their traffic and can thereby optimise the end user experience.
Keeping the traffic local, instead of sending it through other, potentially much longer routes, allows networks to serve users better and faster. Unlike some IXP models that stretch over very large metro regions, and add complexity and cost along the way, the Asteroid IXP model focuses on efficient, local traffic exchange. Just as an airport hub moves people from one airline onto another airline and destination, an IXP does the same – only with Internet packets.
“At Asteroid we believe in working with the right partners to meet the needs of customers”, says Asteroid CEO Remco van Mook. “Relined is a great partner for us, with their solid reputation, their impressive fibre network, and their incredibly competitive offering”.
With this partnership, through Relined’s expansive fibre network, ISPs and other networks can now reach the Asteroid IXP from over 30 locations in Amsterdam, including Equinix, GlobalSwitch and Iron Mountain (EvoSwitch). Fees start at €375 per month.
You can reach the Asteroid IXP via Relined from the following data centres: datacenter.com, DRT Amsterdam Business Park, Equinix AM1/2, AM3, AM4, AM5, AM6, AM7, AM8, euNetworks, Iron Mountain/EvoSwitch, Global Switch, Schiphol-Rijk data centers, Switch datacenters, and TDCG Amsterdam.
Asteroid is a global interconnection platform innovator. It operates neutral Internet exchange points (IXPs) worldwide, and works with trusted parties in local markets to deliver efficient, local interconnection.
The Asteroid IXP model is a return to the original spirit of simple, efficient interconnection but built on state-of-the-art technology, lightweight and scalable architecture, and advanced toolsets.
Asteroid IXPs provide a simple, modern and cost-effective way to peer with some of the largest networks in the world. With its nimble, yet powerful design, the Asteroid platform sets a new standard for IXPs.
